LoVe@FaCeBoOk

Today morning I was listening to this song “Yeh dooriyan” from the movie “Love Aaj Kal” which brought me back to the movie. I’d recently seen this movie…I know, this movie released years back but I don’t know…I never got the time to watch this movie. So, finally I watched the movie and in the beginning only I was impressed with the reasons that Meera (Deepika Padukone) and Jai (Saif Ali Khan) offered for not being in a long distance relationship. How long distance relationship will somewhere choke them and after sometime would be like an albatross around their neck.

All their reasons and this song reminded me of the girl in my class who met her boyfriend on Facebook. I was in 11th grade when I met her at my coaching institute. She was crazy about this song “Yeh dooriyan” and had driven me crazy too. She would not study a single word during the classes and chat with her boyfriend all the time during the class. For her coming to institute was all about chatting with her boyfriend and nothing else because she didn’t want her parents to catch her chatting.

One day out of curiosity I asked this girl about her boyfriend. I was surprised and shocked when I heard that she was in a long distance relationship with her boyfriend and she met him on Facebook but this not the end of it, to top it all she told me that she’s never met him in person. I asked her how she can be in love with him when she’d never met the guy. All she told me was that meeting in person doesn’t matter. She just loved him.

Me: But, how could you fall for him?? You’ve never met him.
Her: I knew him as a child. He was my neighbor. Then, his father got transferred to Bangalore and he left.
Me: when did he leave?
Her: I was in 4th grade.
Me: OMG!! Seriously, it’s been so long…were you guys good friends?
Her: No…we were just neighbors.
Me: You were just neighbors and you trust him…just like that.
Her: I didn’t in the beginning…but he was quite adamant, he eventually convinced me of his love for me.

In that moment I knew she was a lost cause. I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t tell her that it won’t last even when I knew that it won’t. Few days later she left the institute. Well, after about almost a year I met her again but in my chemistry class. Again she would sit at the back and constantly text her boyfriend or so I thought, although, I was wrong this time. They were not together anymore. She was texting her new boyfriend who happened to be in her school only this time. Then one day after class I got hold of her and asked her about her FB boyfriend.

Me: How have you been?? How’s your relationship?? Did you meet him??
Her: I’m great!! Yeah…I met him but we’re not together anymore.
Me: why…what happened??
Her: Reality happened!! Let’s just say we were only compatible in virtual world but, in real world it didn’t work out!!
Me: Awwww…I’m so sorry!!
Her: Don’t be…I found someone better and he’s in my school. He’s an awesome guy!!
Me: Then I’m happy for you!!

So today I’m going to write a letter to all those guys/girls who claim to find love on Facebook and get into long distance relationship too over FB only.

Dear FB Lover,

So, you met her on Facebook. You sent her friend request because she looked pretty in her profile picture. You talked to her as a friend. Now, every time she comes online you chat with her. She thinks that you’re her friend but, you have other ideas. One day just out of blue you propose to her. You tell her on Facebook that you’ve fallen for her. You ask her to get in a long distance relationship with you. Now, please tell me what answer are you expecting from the poor girl? She barely knows you, therefore she can’t just say yes!! She can’t even refuse you directly because she doesn’t want to hurt you. You’ve just caught her off guard. You think that she being difficult and she’s arrogant if she refuses you.

But, now I ask you…did you really fell for the girl? You’ve just chatted with her a few times. You have not met her in person. You hardly know her. You don’t even know what her favorite color is. You claim to love her but you don’t know what she dreams to be in her life. You don’t even know if she wears spectacles or what is the color of her eyes!!

You think that she’s the right girl for you but, actually she’s not. Even if you’re in love, it’s not the girl but the delusional image that you’ve created of her that attracts you!! So, in the end I would just ask you to stop and think before you put someone in such an awkward situation.

Love is a beautiful emotion and I guess the feeling is wonderful but, don’t waste it on someone who is not worth it or for that matter is not the person that you think he/she is, just because a social networking site presented them that way. Don’t let the glitter of these social networking sites sweep you off your feet and make you believe in something that is not really there because at last when this virtual fantasy will become your reality, all you’ll feel is cheated if your prince charming turns out to be actually a Frog Prince!!

Yours Faithfully,

#BRINGBACKOURGIRLS

I’ve just given my 12th CBSE Board Exams and now I’m preparing for my medical college entrances. Well, school is over and I’m missing the discussions that my friends and me would have about the recent happenings like the elections in India, or for that matter the abduction of Nigerian girls by Boko Haram.

Every day I read newspaper in the morning and wish before I reach the “world news” section that today may be the day when I read that finally those Nigerian girls are rescued, that finally they are home. But, every day my wishes and prays are going in vain. As the days are passing by, well…I’m getting very agitated and angry. The newspaper every day informs me about the countries that have joined in to help Nigerian government to rescue the girls. But all I’m doing is just reading. I feel so helpless.

The first time I read this news I was shocked and the first thing that I said was “thank god I don’t live in a place where going to school can get you abducted!!” But, I kept on following the news out of curiosity and somewhere I’d thought that in a matter of a day or two the Nigerian government will rescue the girls and punish the abductors. Alas, I was wrong!! It’s been weeks and the girls are not rescued. Few days back I read that few of girls are sick and some died due to snake bite. They’re also being converted to Islam and some are forcefully married!!

All my life I’ve lived in a protective bubble created by my family. They’ve been with me and if I’m taken away from them or if they’re taken away from me, well…I know that the pain felt would be immeasurable!! And this makes me wonder how much pain and suffering these parents and girls would be going through being separated from each other. Those parents must be devastated!!

Boko Haram had offered to release the girls in exchange for his prisoners. In the beginning the video released by him said that the group intended to sell the girls in market!! “I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah,” and “Allah has instructed me to sell them. They are his property and I will carry out his instructions.” He said these horrible things. In the name of Allah he’s trying to justify his evil act.

As Malala said in a recent interview “They should go and they should learn Islam, and I think that they should think these girls as their own sisters. How can one imprison their own sisters and treat them in such a bad way?” I totally agree with her. I’ve not studied Islam but I know this much that no god or religion teaches anyone to treat a fellow human being and little girls in such heartless way regardless of their caste, creed, colour, religion and gender.

According to Boko Haram “Western Education is sinful” but then I ask isn’t selling teenage girls in market sinful too?? And, if he really thinks that abducting little girls and selling them isn’t sinful then I must say that his moral meter is faulty and he should really get it repaired. Also, he should go and learn Islam and think twice before doing such outrageous things in the name of Allah when his real selfish motive is to just get his prisoners out!! Allah would never want such cruel thing to happen.

In the end all I can say is…#BRINGBACKOURGIRLS and please be fast!!

The K-factors!! (PART-1)

Well, I thought it was time I started writing about my school friends and I will start with my very recent friends. The K-factors of my life!! The two people that I would’ve never talked to if, circumstances were different. The two people with whom I’d fought for a seat, never realizing that someday I’d be the one who would sit with them. Those two people that I never noticed in entire 14 years of my school life!! Even I’d not known that one them actually existed in my batch. I had literally never heard of him or just seen him; he just came out of the blue, seriously!!

THE FIRST MEETING

I knew they were in my class and I had talked to them but the conservations we ever had were only about the seat and nothing else. Then, this fateful day comes and I’m literally forced to be in their company. My friend gets sick at the last moment and doesn’t show up for the book fair visit where we were supposed to meet an American diplomat. I didn’t have any option other than to be with them so, in that small room I silently go and stand beside that always smiling, tom boyish, loud voiced girl, praying to god that my friend magically comes or this BF of this K girl stops staring at me as if I would steal his GF!!

I always used to think that the K girl and K boy had a thing…you see I thought they were more than just friends. I thought that they were the classic example of opposite attract each other. The K girl with the smiley faces and blow-it-off attitude whereas, the K boy always seemed reserved and serious to the core!!

Alas!! I soon realized that they were not together!! But, it’s not my mistake you see; the guy never talked to anyone and quietly followed the K girl, head high and sometimes smiling while looking at her!! What was I supposed think?? I must confess I thought it was a cute story…the silent types, never saying anything but still understanding each other types. But, all I can say now is that everything is not as it seems!!

The K girl and k boy didn’t object at me sitting with them in the bus but still as we sat waiting for the bus to start, there was certain awkwardness between us. Then, the K girl said “chalo kuch khelte hai”, and the bus started. This was the first time the K boy spoke in my presence suggesting that we play dumb charades…me being me, initially refused because I knew I couldn’t act and was horrible at it but, majority wins!! And with the start of this game our friendship also started!!

All the way to Pragati Maidan we played this game and first time I realized that I could laugh that much. I mean I’d never laughed so much in one day let alone 1 hour!! I totally enjoyed my time through the journey and even when we got out of bus we played this game while walking. All the way back also we played the same game and I’m amazed that I was not bored with it, more importantly, they both were not fed up of me because I’m a terrible actor and whenever I’ve to guess I start laughing!! So, this was the day of the beginning our amazing friendship!!

To Be Continued…

Letter to the World's Best Dog...SANDY!!

15th January, 2014

Dear Sandy,

I’m sorry…I’ve been very strict with you all those years. All those times when I shouted at you that you were the world’s worst dog. Don’t you dare believe all those words…not for a second dear!! Don’t ever believe that you were a bad dog. No, you were a great dog!! The best dog that anyone could ever have, you just didn’t have the qualities a normal dog. You were beyond those. Loyal and selfless, yes you were but with that you had self respect. I remember the day you bit ANU. You were no one’s punching bag and didn’t tolerate any of Ankit’s nonsense either.

When you bit Ankit, well what can I say, honestly even I had wanted to slap him…seriously well deserved I should say!! All those times when I’d wanted to punish my brother and sister you’ve done justice by biting them!!You were like a human. Your habits were not like dogs. You understood everything!! In every situation when no one could think straight, just one look in your eyes and all the panic and stress would vanish. You gave everyone in my family the power to think sanely and rationally. Your super patience and the ability to make us laugh during the most difficult time of our lives were in itself amazing.

I can’t describe everything that you gave us with your silent presence in our lives. By the way not silent, do you remember when dad was angry with you because you won’t stop barking. OMG!! Dude seriously, you had the loudest voice and you wouldn’t let anyone sleep at night. You had scared so many people with that bark of yours even a small child fell from stairs out of fright. So many girls and even guys have run away shrieking in terror as if they had seen Dracula!! All couriers, bill guys would at least run once from our house in fright and that electrician refused to come to our house because you had scared him very badly last time.

I’ve numerous memories of yours dear. Every moment with you was precious and I won’t forget it. Be it the winter mornings when you’ll wake me with your cold nose or the rainy days when you’ll try walk under our umbrella to see us off for school even when you were scared of water!! Like I never understood how you could be so scared of water and at the same time walk in heavy rain!! And how can I forget the way you walked. I’m betting that you were a film star or model. Killer walk!! Also, I still have that red sweater of yours, the one in which you looked like Shah Rukh Khan of Mohabbatein!! You used to look so adorable that even SRK failed in front of you!!

And yes, I have not forgotten the day when you had barged into my school and school guards had to run after you to get you out or for that matter when you would come with me for my maths class!! All these and more memories of yours are imprinted in my mind forever Sandy and as long as I’ll live I would always remember you. You were my best friend!! You have a special place in my heart which will now be empty but your memories will help me keep on going in my life. I never thought that you would leave me so soon.

You never judged me or anyone for that matter. You gave unconditional and pure love. The kind of love which only exists in books and novels. You loved us but without any conditions. You gave your 100% and never held anything back. No dog could ever take your place and I promise you today that no dog will take that place. You would always be my first and last dog!!

Goodbye Sandy!! I hope that in your new life, whatever or wherever god sends, you’re happy. RIP!!

P.S. - I LOVE YOU AND WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU!!

TWILIGHT V/S CRITICISM

I watched Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part-1, 2 both!! I’ve watched these movies before but watched them again on the T.V premier. I love this book. I’m not saying it’s the best literary piece but in terms of creating a whole new world that too without really changing the time period and setting is quite remarkable. It’s not like Game of Thrones or for that matter Harry Potter books wherein it’s absolutely a different time and setting. It’s happening in a high school. Nothing is extraordinary about the setting. But, still the way the author fits this whole story in a high school biology lab is amazing in itself.

Like seriously, giving the good old scary Dracula this type of turn is magnificent. Dracula was the symbol of fear not a romantic character but this makeover of vampires with the twilight saga was not what I had ever expected. I’d never thought that vampires and werewolves would ever be the object of romantic fantasies. The more shocking thing I find is that it has a lot of critics as well. I know that everything is criticized but the way some people criticize and pass derogatory comments even after not reading the book is downright hideous and awful. I mean if one has read the book and know about it and then didn’t like it, its okay. I know some people who just can’t shut up. They just think that if they don’t like a certain book then the person is committing a crime by even mentioning the name of that book or movie!!

But, I guess these jerks couldn’t dampen the impact that this book had all over the world. I can surely say that Edward Cullen is one of the most romantic characters ever written in the history of literature and in the 21st century as well. I’m not saying this because I’m a Robert Pattinson fan, I’m bitten by the so called “Twilight Bug” or I’m one of those girls who have not read any novels except the Twilight Saga. I’ve read the classics as well the hunger games types of books too. I read extensively(my approaching Board exams have kind of put a full stop to my reading these day but otherwise I’m a keen reader).

I’ve read hunger games trilogy and seen the movie but, honestly I don’t like its movie adaptation even if its lead is an Oscar winner. Moreover, I just don’t understand this obsession people have with Oscar winners. How can someone assume that if a particular actor got Oscar for his/her performance in a certain movie then surely in every movie that actor is great? As far as I know they don’t get the Oscar for a lifetime. They only get it for that particular performance!! And also, Oscar doesn’t mean that it’s mandatory for everyone to like that actor. There are people who would give killer looks if you’ll tell them that you don’t like that Oscar winning actor/movie and straight away tell you that you’ve absolutely no taste in movies and the non Oscar winning actor that you like is some C-grade actor, playing the bad goon who gets badly beaten by Salman Khan!!

I love Twilight Book and if anyone would tell me that it’s a horrible book and its movie is bad just because Jennifer Lawrence or some other Oscar winner is not its lead then, I’m really sorry dude!! It’s not my problem what you think but, I’m not changing my choices just because someone doesn’t give them an Oscar or some geek critic thinks that it’s a bad book and movie. I’m damn sure that if more than half of the world’s people are reading that book then it’s not the book that’s at fault but you!! Even if you don’t like the book I don’t think so it gives you the right to loathe, make fun of the people who like it. Moreover pass bad comments about it!!

THE LAST CLASS PHOTOGRAPH!!

Today finally my pre-board exams got over but still I’m not feeling any joy. I’m having this mixed bittersweet experience. The subtle hints are there. I keep on ignoring them. Telling myself that eons of time is left. Whenever someone exclaims that school is getting over, I just tell them that I’m glad that after 14 years I’m getting out and all the nonsense. But, somewhere deep inside every waking moment this realization is slowly seeping in my mind that this long journey is coming to an end.

Yesterday, I opened the newspaper and saw that my school .i.e. Bal Bharati Pitampura, New Delhi is ranked first in North Delhi. I felt really proud and was truly happy and then again someone reminded me that after 3 months I would pass out of this school. Like seriously, I never thought that I’d feel bad about leaving this school. I mean I’ve never really thought about leaving it. It had been like my second home. I’ve grown up at this place and I guess have taken it for granted as well.

I had my last class photograph today at school with all my subject teachers, Principal and Vice-Principal. My Principal gave a very nice speech or I should say that she talked to us like a friend. I’d like to mention that back in 8th grade my then principal retired after giving 25 years to our school making it what it is today. But, I’ve got to say this that my now principal is awesome. No one could’ve led our school better. They said back then that no one could replace Baveja sir but, what I think is that it’s not about replacing someone it’s about doing what you want to do. One can’t hope to be like someone. It’s not about being someone. If you try to fit in someone else’s shoes then you’ll definitely fall. One has to make their own place and work the way one knows best. Change is important and necessary in life.

I’ll always remember today’s day. I’ll always remember my classmates and this chilly winter morning with all the jokes that we’d cracked today standing in that badminton court. Whenever I’ll see this photograph, I’ll remember how everyone couldn’t stop laughing while the camera was clicking. It’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words but today I know that whenever in future I’ll hold this class photograph well, words…won’t be there to describe that moment. I’ll keep those 2 minutes of this photo session with me all my life. I’ll miss my crazy class!!

ONE MORE LEFT!!

Well, I didn’t write after my last exam which was English because I was truly exhausted after it. All those writing skills and that literature section literally sucked out of me my desire to write anymore. I like English as a subject but I don’t like its textbooks. In middle school we used have a great textbook called INSIGHTS and it was the best. The stories were great and everything didn’t just revolve around social stereotypes.

All I’ve seemed to read in my last 2 years is not English but about the social stigma’s that our society is facing. I know what’s happening in the world. I read newspaper everyday as well but, always reading about the sad things is somewhat now changing me into a cynical person. I think they should add some real funny and happy stories. Like seriously, I personally don’t like the stories and poem. I know everything around us doesn’t end with a perfect happily ever after but at least stories should be remotely pleasant. Moreover, I think it’s high time that they start putting some modern literature and extracts from the books that recently written by new, young authors. I know Shakespeare and Robert frost are some great writers and poets of their time and their literary works are quite exquisite but exposure to new literature is also important.

After this English exam, today I had my biology exam. Biology is a nice subject and I like it. Today’s exam was good. It was very simple and whatever I studied in 1 day holiday didn’t actually come in the exam. All the answers that I wrote in the exam today were actually extracted from my listening in the class not what I memorized. Sometimes too easy exam is the most difficult because we tend to overlook the easy things while preparing in order to focus on the HOTS topics.

So, I guess that as I’m nearing my last pre-board exam i.e. chemistry, I’m understanding my mistakes as well as the fact that leaving anything is not an option even if it’s the most easy thing in the world. If I want to score good in my CBSE BOARDS then, I’ve to study everything!!
